{"id":689,"date":"2022-11-05T07:40:38","date_gmt":"2022-11-05T11:40:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pittsaldrichassociates.com\/?p=689"},"modified":"2022-12-05T18:13:27","modified_gmt":"2022-12-05T23:13:27","slug":"leading-with-a-no-and-inspiring-followers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pittsaldrichassociates.com\/?p=689","title":{"rendered":"Leading with a NO&#8230; and Inspiring Followers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PAA has astounding success with <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>HorsePlay HP<sup>2 <\/sup><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>Human Potential Horse-Powered&#x2122;)<\/strong><\/span><\/span> as sustainable, powerful leadership development.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re walking the talk of <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>HorsePlay HP<sup>2<\/sup><\/strong><\/span> in <strong>our own leadership learning<\/strong> experience with <a href=\"http:\/\/horsedream.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HorseDream<\/a>. Here\u2019s a recent video:<\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/youtu.be\/U5sPedBUuOQ?rel=0<\/p>\n<p>Christina and Be (black Clydesdale), with help from Holly (Zebra) and Chief Silver Cloud (white Percheron) are synchronous, in spontaneous engagement, without words or force, to explore a leadership dilemma that Christina held in mind.\u00a0 You see them in a <strong>relationship<\/strong> that generates stellar <strong>results<\/strong> for the inquiry.<\/p>\n<p>Experience their dance throughout the video, moving from Separation to Approach-Connection-Partnership-Clarity-Guidance-Completion and Closure.\u00a0 A true circle of <strong>shared leadership<\/strong>, open to whatever unfolds as fuel for optimal learning and choices.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BACKSTORY<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>HorsePlay HP<sup>2<\/sup><\/strong><\/span> founders, Christina &amp; Lynne, are in a continuous upward spiral of ongoing learning.\u00a0 They enrolled in HorseDream\u2019s Partner License Program, to learn from the expertise of coaches Gerhard and Karin Krebs, David and Sharon Harris, and Jackie Stevenson &#8211;HorseDream founders and members&#8211; and the herd at Pebble Ledge Ranch.\u00a0 Be is the herd\u2019s leader; and she\u2019s beginning to teach Chief Silver Cloud, the newest member of the herd, what it takes to be part of the team, and to lead.<\/p>\n<p>The activity is a \u201cconstellation,\u201d as in \u201cassemblage, pattern, arrangement.\u201d\u00a0 The constellation began with a leadership dilemma for Christina:<strong><em>\u00a0 As one who prefers leading by building consensus, how do I say NO and still <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">inspire others to follow<\/span>?<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our cohort of learners (8 colleagues + coaches Gerhard, David and Jackie) asked questions to <strong>build clarity<\/strong> about the dilemma.\u00a0 Once they and Christina built<strong> mutual understanding<\/strong>, the colleagues set about creating a \u201ccourse of possibilities\u201d that represented, <strong>in their minds<\/strong>, components of the dilemma and <strong>frames of reference<\/strong> to view the challenge in the broadest terms possible.\u00a0 During clarity-building, the Pebble Ledge Herd (6 horses and the zebra) were <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">free to roam the paddock<\/span>.\u00a0 By the time the course-building was complete, ALL of the herd except Holly had moved into the shed.<\/p>\n<p>As the video commences, the question has been framed and clarified; the constellation created; and horses are in the shed (saying No?).\u00a0 Christina now has the opportunity to lead and learn.\u00a0 Knowing that Be, as the herd\u2019s leader, would be a wonderful teacher, Christina seeks out Be to partner in leadership, open to whatever unfolds with the herd.<\/p>\n<p>This engagement was a robust application of horse and human partnership creating a wellspring of information from which Christina could draw to arrive at optimal learning <strong><em>for her<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 &#8211;with others concurrently taking away learning relevant <strong><em>to them<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 It was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">unplanned<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">untrained<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">spontaneous<\/span>:\u00a0 a constellation emerging from the moment the question was posed.<\/p>\n<p>There are countless possibilities for interpretation:\u00a0 each person takes and makes the most of the experience from their own point of view, relevant to their unique needs. With this in mind:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>What do you experience as you watch?<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>What are you learning about NO as a leader, and as a follower?<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>When is NO a \u201cYES, I\u2019m supporting you though it might not appear that way?\u201d<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>What relates to your own leadership challenges?<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>What are your own infinite possibilities?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PAA has astounding success with HorsePlay HP2 (Human Potential Horse-Powered&#x2122;) as sustainable, powerful leadership development.
