of leadership.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s the spontaneous reply:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Blended Coach-Mentor Role:<\/strong>\u00a0 I offer ideas for your thoughtful consideration, and tools to support learning.\u00a0 My role, and my intent, is not to \u201cdirect\u201d your thoughts\/actions, but rather to ask probing questions, offer a perspective for you to explore and reflect upon, giving you the benefit of my experience, my expertise, my thoughts, my curiosity.\u00a0 Hopefully, you seek out the wisdom of others as well.\u00a0 In the end, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">you choose<\/span> your course of action.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your Engagement:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Exploration\/Study\/Reflect\/Practice:\u00a0 Your growth\/development requires that you take initiative to explore, study, reflect and practice.\u00a0 Every minute of the day you\u2019re in \u201clearning\u201d mode, even when doing \u201chands on\u201d tasks.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate Understanding:\u00a0 It\u2019s imperative that you \u201cput meat on the bones\u201d of your words.\u00a0 It\u2019s not enough to \u201csay\u201d the words:\u00a0 what\u2019s most important is the meaning behind the words, and \u201cwalking the talk\u201d of the words.<\/li>\n<li>Use The Tools:\u00a0 Ask yourself\u2026\u00a0 How am I utilizing the tools offered?\u00a0 What do I do daily\/weekly to keep the tools at the forefront of my thoughts\/actions?\u00a0 How am I practicing with others?\u00a0 With the team?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To be a good leader requires energy, effort, focus, and commitment\u00a0 &#8211;just as in any role.\u00a0 The key driver of success for a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">great<\/span> leader is the ability to optimize <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">relationships<\/span> in order to achieve <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">results<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Guidelines for achieving Results\/Relationships:\u00a0 OUR VALUES.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Results<\/strong>:\u00a0 Leaders are responsible to deliver strategic <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">results<\/span>, which requires<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a \u201cvision\u201d for team direction<\/li>\n<li>strategic thinking &amp; planning, with team member (and other stakeholder) collective input<\/li>\n<li>collaborative implementation by the team, including the leader rolling up sleeves and pitching in to be \u201chands on\u201d when strategically\/tactically necessary<\/li>\n<li>commitment<\/li>\n<li>accountability:\u00a0 to self, to others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Relationships<\/strong>:\u00a0 It\u2019s essential that leaders<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>build effective relationships (trust\/respect) with each individual member of the team, as well as the team as a whole<\/li>\n<li>role model the behaviors desired<\/li>\n<li>empower each team member to be and do their best<\/li>\n<li>engage in effective discussions to surface different perspectives (conflict) in order to make optimal decisions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Messaging:\u00a0 <\/strong>HOW you say\/do something is critical to success.\u00a0 Complete thinking of your messaging approach will help you to be most effective with what you choose to address.\u00a0 It\u2019s essential to think through\u00a0 &#8211;from all angles:\u00a0 What?\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Who?\u00a0 When?\u00a0 Where?\u00a0 How?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What\u2019s the Agenda:\u00a0 Purpose\/Outcomes?<\/li>\n<li>What are the Key Messages (e.g., your vision of change, roles, responsibilities, timing, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Why the Key Messages are important\/relevant<\/li>\n<li>Who needs to hear the information<\/li>\n<li>When\/Where is change anticipated\/initiated<\/li>\n<li>How\u00a0 you &#8220;show up&#8221; as the Leader (&#8220;Leadership Presence&#8221;)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\">&#8230;to deliver the message:\u00a0 energy, timing, words, body language<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\">&#8230; to support, leverage, expand current learning (tools, models)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\">&#8230;to reap the greatest value by engaging the Team in discussion to ensure clarity, buy-in, commitment, results.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, a client asked about our engagement roles and &#8220;the basics&#8221;
